Executables' Guide to Handpainting Textures for The Sims 2 | Download PDF (67 pages)
Have you ever wondered how to paint clothing textures from scratch?
I've been using paid software like Milkshape, Photoshop, and 3D Coat Textura to texture Sims 2 models for years, but I've managed to translate my process to completely free open-source software!
I've broken down the entire process from start to finish for complete beginners (who may never have made a clothing recolour package before), but more experienced CC creators can skip around as needed using the PDF bookmarks.
You don't need a graphics tablet– but you may want one once you've played around with this! :)
Tumblr media
The clothing shown on the cover is also downloadable through the document.
Hope this inspires you to make something! :D

If your library is shutting down, if your downloaded ebooks have vanished from your device, you can get books for free and you can fight back three FREE ways:
Libgen
Calibre
Gutenberg
Libgen allows you to download ebooks for free. The site moves regularly, last time I knew it was libgen.rs but it's here now:
Is that link now dead? Go to your search engine and enter the term LibGen. You'll find where it's moved to. Go there and download books. Save them to a backup. Burn a disk with them on it. Whatever you have to do to keep knowledge accessible to you and others.
In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, books were banned but people assigned themselves a book and memorized it. Then shared the knowledge. We aren't there nor will we be because in Bradbury's time there wasn't the ability to download and save ebooks.
SO DOWNLOAD AND SAVE EBOOKS EXTERNALLY PLEASE.
Libgen helps you do that. So does Calibre, which is a free open-source ebook creator and an ebook reverser. You can take an epub or mobi and turn it into a PDF or a .docx.
Please do this if you fear knowledge will be lost. Or even if you don't. Just…save save save what you can because Amazon and all the other multi-nationals do not care nor will they care if knowledge goes away.
Finally Gutenberg.org is your one stop free source for books out of copyright. Download, download, download. They also have audiobooks.
Happy library building my friends.

I started writing "4 srs" this month and I like how free and accessible writing is, so I'm recommending free software I've experimented with that might help people who want to get into the hobby!
“Specifically Created for Writing Stories”
-------------------------------
Manuskript – Story organizer / word processor. Has an outliner and index card function, along with distraction free mode. Lets you switch between different templates such as a non-fiction mode or a short story.
Bibisco – Novel writing software that includes writing goals, world-building, distraction free mode, and a timeline.
“I Just Want to Write”
---------------------------
LibreOffice – Microsoft 365 alternative, but free! LibreOffice Writer is what I wrote this tumblr post in before I posted it. Also if you copy & paste the text into the Rich Text Editor on AO3, it seems that it actually converts it properly. Nice! No need for scripts.
Note-Taking
-------------------------------
Zim Wiki - note taking application that is very, very lightweight (1.1mb). It functions with a tree structure, so I’d personally recommend it for world-building and character bios. There are built-in plugins that also turn it into a good software for task management (it even has a article on how to use it for GTD) and journalling. See also: CherryTree (2mb), which is a more outdated-looking app, but functions similarly.
Obsidian MD – The Big Boy. markdown note editor that has been adopted by personal knowledge management fans---if it doesn’t do something you want it to do, just look in the community plugins to see if someone has already done it. Some unique non-word processing related usages I’ve found is the ability to create a table of contents dashboard, a image gallery for images, embedding youtube videos and timestamping notes, so forth.
Logseq – A bullet point based markdown note editor that also has PDF annotations, Zotero integration, flashcard creation, and whiteboards. Best used for outlining projects due to the bullet point structure.
Joplin – A modern app comparable to Zim Wiki, it’s basically just a note-taking software that uses folders and tags to sort easier. Looks prettier than Zim Wiki and Cherry Tree
Notion – An online-only website that allows usage of different database types. Free for personal use. Note: I dislike the AI updates that have been making the app lag more. I prefer the others on this list.
Mind Maps
-------------------------------
Freeplane – So much goddamn features, including a ton of add-ons. Looks somewhat ugly, but it works for anyone willing to spend a while learning how to use it.
Mermaid – Text-based diagram creator. Can be used in apps like Joplin, Notion, and Obsidian.
Obsidian’s Canvas – A core plugin for Obsidian, it deserves its own mention in that it allows you to create embedded notes of the mindmap nodes. Thus, if you want to create a 20-page long note and have it minimized to the size of a penny on the mindmap, you could.
Other Things That Might Be Of Interest
Syncthing - A free software that allows you to sync between two or more computers. Have a desktop but also laze around on a laptop in bed, coming up with ideas?? This is your buddy if you don't want to use a online software.

i truly wish i could see the appeal in a "universal software" the way other people do. i just can't understand canva. i need to put together a program at the library explaining how to use canva. but i still can't answer the question of why you would use canva for myself. it's a photo editor, but it doesn't do any real photo editing. you can make pdf documents, but it's OCR is so terrible that you can't really edit something once it's made. or anything you've scanned. it's a slideshow designer. but... who seriously came to canva looking to make slideshows? its a video editor???? this program that most people use to make basic ass flyers is also a video editor???? and we aren't even talking about how frustrating it to use as a freemium platform. oh you don't have to pay for it UNLESS YOU WANT ANY OF THE PARTS YOU'D ACTUALLY COME TO CANVA FOR. the only thing it's actually good for is providing free to use stock photo, clip art, and templates inside of the program, but if you want anything that looks halfway decent you have to sign up for their ridiculous subscription.
i'm just. if you actually care about what you do 90% of the things canva does it's insufficient for. it's a bad photo editor, it's a bad document editor, it's a bad video editor, it's a bad presentation creator, and we haven't even gotten to how bad the AI tools are. i hate AI so much but Canva's AI isn't even worth attempting to use. you ask for a picture of gold leaf and it serves you gold soup. whatever gold soup is. but also. i guess it technically does all of those things. so if you're not actually interested in anything you make being good then. there you go.

Behind the Scenes: Starstruck '24
As we celebrate the launch of Starstruck '24, I wanted to take you behind the scenes and share a glimpse of the journey that brought the zine to life. This year marks the fourth anniversary of the SkyStar Smut Exchange. In prior years, the exchange has been compiled through an Ao3 collection, plus our social media accounts. But this year, with over half the contributions coming from artists and comic creators, it felt important to showcase all the amazing works in a single format. Thus, the birth of an e-zine seemed not just necessary, but inevitable.
On Learning Curves: A Tale of Two Typesets
Typesetting Starstruck '24 was an adventure in itself. Initially, I used a program called Atticus, known for its robust e-book formatting capabilities. After painstakingly laying out every page, I discovered a crucial limitation: Atticus, though awesome in many other ways, doesn’t support live links in PDF exports. This was a dealbreaker, since linking contributors' social media profiles was important for attribution.
Switching gears (and software), I rebuilt the entire zine in Affinity Publisher. This came with its own set of challenges, because my Affinity skills were pretty rusty. I had used the software last year when I typeset an e-zine version of my story Detention (richly illustrated by the amazing @fuccerito), but Starstruck is a more complex project with multiple contributors, title pages, a table of contents, and so on, so I had to learn a lot of new skills on the fly.
There may have been tears involved. Also, so cursing. But the result? Absolutely worth it! The final product is something I am deeply proud of. Of course, a zine is only as good as its contents, and the contributions to Starstruck '24 are genuinely stellar. It's 178 pages of pure smutty goodness from our talented community members. You can grab your copy of Starstruck '24 for FREE at itch.io. Enjoy! Please note: This is for adults only.

Looking at your Downloads page, I see you have a section entitled "Terms of Uses", in which you have numerous restrictions on how players may use your CC. I was wondering where you think you get the right to restrict usage of your material, since EA owns all rights to anything made for Sims games. Additionally, and in particular, the Sims 3 EULA specifically says that there can be no restrictions on how players use each others CC (section 2B4). Why do you think these laws don't apply to you?
Hey there,
First things first: I get why people ask others about this. I really do. But I think we sometimes forget that, TOUs, from a *legal* perspective, are incorrectly set up. (with other words, even with my TOU, I could technically never send a DMCA claim as the setup is incorrect).
We shouldn't forget that creator TOUs are there from a more morally correct perspective. My personal feelings on people just grabbing my items, especially meshes I meshed without asking, and then claiming as their own is just a dick move. Whether the EULA allows it or not. In the end, we're a community. Not a company.
Conversions on the other hand, that i've done (which my TOU does say) you can do all you'd like with it, as I don't own those meshes/textures at all. All rights reserved there.
Now, diving into the contract:
Section 2B4 says the following:
B. Contributing Content through The Sims 3 Launcher (Emphasis on LAUNCHER here)
(...) 4. In exchange for the right to use content contributed by other users through the Software, when you contribute content through the Software, you expressly grant to other users of the Software the non‐exclusive, perpetual, transferable, worldwide, irrevocable right to access and use, copy, modify, display, perform, and create and distribute derivative works from, your contributed content in connection with the Software, and to distribute and otherwise communicate your contributed content as a component of works that they create using the Software, for example, The Sims lots or The Sims videos, without further notice, attribution or compensation to you. You hereby waive any moral rights of paternity, publication, reputation, or attribution under applicable law with respect to EA’s and other players’ use and enjoyment of such content contributions in connection with the Software.
(SOURCE: https://media.contentapi.ea.com/content/dam/eacom/en-us/eula/eula-the-sims-3-row-pc-11-2015.pdf)
The way I, personally, understand it, and I read Copyrighting & Rights documents A LOT for my work and often confirm my findings with a third party, is:
It has to be content that's from and to the Launcher. Specifically with the exchange website in mind. We're talking Lots, Sims, Sims3pack store items. Videos recorded from TS3 > The sims 3 Launcher. Screenshots even. This is what this section specifically refers to.
The content needs to have come in a Sims3Pack specifically. Package files cannot be installed through the launcher, and therefore rules this part of the contract out as a potential illegal move. In fact, reading the full contract, it's a very gray area in said contract.
The "Software" (The sims 3) can't make meshes for you. It can't make textures, it can't make a script mod for you, but what it can make is the following within the game itself to share: Lots, Sims, Worlds (well, the TS3 Worlds EULA would come into play here, which is practically the same as TS3's), CASPart presets (So NOT CASparts), Patterns (again, TS3 Pattern tool EULA, assuming you didn't use a third party tool for this instead). Sharing "Objects" (in the sense of simply Presets), Pets and "Tattoos" (in the sense that, within CAS, you save your "Layered" tattoos and then share it on the exchange). With other words, the things you download OR share from/to the exhange, but not limited to third party websites, where the content also has to be installed through the Launcher. Those are the people you want to talk to, when they're complaining that people are modifying their Sims3packaged Sim/Lot. I'm the wrong target for this EULA honestly and sending this ask to.
In fact, just to do other people some favours, let's go through the whole Section B in a summarised, humanly readable way (Remember this is for the LAUNCHER)
EA/Origin account grants you the ability to download/upload from and to the launcher and it's websites (The Exchange for example)
Don't upload copyrighted stuff to the Exchange. EA has the rights to remove them then.
EA can use your lots/sims/presets of CASparts/objects in their promotion materials. As well as your images and videos even. You automatically grant permission to this once you share it to an EA website. (The Exchange)
See above.
The part that I do find interesting, and I know TS2's EULA had the same thing, is the following (I bolded the interesting part):
2. Intellectual Property Rights and Ownership. A. Reservation of Rights. You have purchased a limited license to the Software and your rights are limited to the license grant above and subject to this License. You may not otherwise copy, display, distribute, perform, publish, modify, or use the Software or any component of it. You are prohibited from making a copy of the Software available on a network where it could be used or downloaded by multiple users. Except as expressly licensed to you herein, EA and its licensors, as applicable, owns and reserves all right, title and interest in the Software, and all related data, characters, themes, objects, storyline, images, photographs, graphics, animations, video, music, text, and the associated copyrights, trademarks, moral rights and other intellectual property rights therein. This License is limited to the intellectual property rights of EA and its licensors in the Software and does not include any rights to other patents or intellectual property. Except to the extent permitted under applicable law, you may not decompile, disassemble, reverse engineer or created derivative works of the Software by any means whatsoever. You may not remove, alter, or obscure any product identification, copyright, or other intellectual property notices in the Software. All rights not expressly granted herein are reserved to EA
Now, you may think the term "Created Derivative works" must mean specifically modified meshes, but I'm guessing this was actually put in for in case someone is modifying Speed tree trees.
Besides, the meaning is:
Derivative work refers to a copyrighted work that comes from another copyrighted work. Copyrights allow their owners to decide how their works can be used, including creating new derivative works off of the original product.
Regarding the part of software modification: Third-party tools (such as S3PE) would seriously edge the line here, contract speaking. They don't have disassembled/reverse engineered code of the "Software" but they do create a copy of the content(s) in memory. (Think: meshes, textures, reading of package files)
The contract, however, is in this section extremely vague for a court to figure out whether they also mean textures/meshes taken from the game and modified as an override.
So if I have some feedback for their lawyers who wrote this, here you go :p. Though, let's be honest, the contract is only set up with EA's services in mind. I actually think those are the huge shortcomings in this contract.
Sorry this got so long. But I've had these talks SO often, that it's getting a bit tiring.
Please PLEASE PLEASE send the contract first to a third party that has a degree in law (which I have done, to someone who does international laws & Software laws), before sending asks like these. I know you mean it out of goodwill, I really do, but it's simply incorrect the way you're interpreting it.

Digital Onboarding Simplified: The Role of Online Document Creation
In a rapidly changing, remote-ready world, onboarding should not be a scavenger hunt. New employees, customers, and partners all expect digital-first experiences, which should be fast, easy, and painless.
This shift to a digital-first experience means that your digital document creator can help organizations streamline manual processes into automated workflows. Whether you’re hiring talent across time zones or onboarding clients in minutes, digital documents help set the stage for what it is like to work with your brand.
Goodbye Paperwork, Hello Personalization
The best online document generation software platforms with smart APIs (such as Sinch APIs) allow organizations to create contracts, forms, agreements, and any policy documents in a few clicks. The beauty is that these documents are smart;they automatically pull in the right names, dates, and custom content based on who is being onboarded.
Do you need an offer letter for a new hire? Or a client onboarding package? Done. No printing, scanning, or PDF version 37b required. Just smart and sleek documents ready to either be signed or shared seamlessly.
Streamlining the Flow
Digital onboarding isn't simply about expediting time; it's reducing friction! Once the onboarding flows are automated and integrated through an online PDF document creator, they can be triggered in real-time (like a signed agreement or email verification).
Welcome emails, onboarding product guides, compliance confirmations, you just auto-generate them. This not only reduces human error but also keeps the process moving while your team sleeps.
More Confidence, Less Chaos
Let’s be real, first impressions matter. When users receive document packages that are clean, on-brand, and relevant, it reflects one thing: we are organized. Trust starts with transparency in industries like finance, healthcare, and tech.
Add audit trails, e-signatures, and secure access control, and you have a process that is more than just simple; it’s smart, compliant, and built for scalability.
The Takeaway
The future is here, and it’s called digital onboarding. The unsung hero, online document creation, is making it possible. It speeds up time to completion, provides a frictionless experience, and creates a polished experience that reflects your brand at its best.
If you’re still sending out Word documents and running down signatures, it’s time to rethink your welcome mat.

So I Made a Comic Panel Creator Tool
Hey everyone!
So this is a bit different from my usual posts, but I wanted to share something I've been working on that combines my love for drawing with my other life as a software engineer.
Tumblr media
If you've been following my daily drawings, you've probably noticed I do a lot of comics and sequential art. I'm constantly scribbling in my sketchbook, doing those automatic drawings where I just let the pen flow and find images in the chaos.
I've always been inspired by the panel layout tools in Clip Studio Paint, but I wanted something more focused just on the panel creation process. Something that would let me quickly set up manga-style pages and experiment with different storytelling approaches.
So I built it myself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What It Does
The Comic Panel Creator is basically a practice tool for comic artists (like me, like you maybe?) who want to improve their storytelling skills without getting bogged down in the technical stuff. It lets you:
Create professional comic panel layouts with proper manga dimensions (5.25 x 7.75 inch)
Generate AI-powered scripts based on your layouts (this part is wild - it actually looks at your panel arrangement and suggests story elements)
Organize your pages into complete books with covers and back covers
Export clean layouts to PDF or PNG for drawing over in whatever app you prefer
It's Open Source & Still in Development!
This project is still actively in development, so expect some rough edges and new features being added regularly. If you're into coding (or just curious), you can check out the project on GitHub: JSReact_comic-panelist (dev branch)
Tumblr media
Why I'm Sharing This
I don't usually talk about my software engineering side on this blog, but comics are where my art and tech interests overlap perfectly. This tool has actually helped me with my own daily drawing practice, making it easier to experiment with different panel arrangements and storytelling techniques.
Back to my regular scribbles tomorrow! 🖋️
